Description

Security Officer – Higher Education (South East London)

Temporary Contract | Full-Time (5 Days per Week) | Enhanced DBS Required

We are recruiting a professional and confident Security Officer to support the in-house security team at a busy higher-education college in South East London. This temporary role focuses on maintaining a safe, supportive environment for students and staff, with safeguarding as a core priority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the college’s in-house security team to maintain a safe and welcoming campus.
  • Carry out regular internal and external patrols, ensuring all areas remain secure and compliant with site procedures.
  • Engage with students in a calm, approachable manner while maintaining firm and appropriate boundaries.
  • Respond promptly to incidents, concerns, or safeguarding matters, following correct reporting protocols.
  • Monitor access control, visitor management, and general site activity.
  • Contribute to a positive educational environment through professional conduct and supportive communication.

Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS (mandatory due to the educational setting).
  • Strong communication skills with well-spoken English.
  • Ability to remain professional, composed, and approachable when interacting with young people.
  • A balanced approach: firm when required, yet easy-going and supportive.
  • Previous security experience preferred, ideally within education, youth services, or public-facing environments.
  • Reliable, proactive, and confident in managing safeguarding responsibilities.
