Security Officer – Truck Stop
Location: St Albans – Watling St Truck Stop
Salary: £13.45 per hour
Job Type: Full time
Shifts
- 12pm-12am
- 2pm-2pm
About The Role
We are looking for a professional, reliable, and vigilant Security Officer to join our team at a busy truck stop. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for drivers, customers, staff, and visitors.
You will be responsible for protecting the premises, monitoring activity, responding to incidents, and ensuring that site rules and safety procedures are always followed.
Key Responsibilities
Security and Site Patrols
- Conduct regular patrols of the truck stop, including parking areas, fuel stations, restrooms, and other facilities.
- Maintain a visible security presence to deter theft, vandalism, anti-social behavior, and other criminal activity.
- Monitor CCTV and other security systems, reporting any suspicious activity.
- Monitor vehicles and access to restricted areas.
- Identify and challenge unauthorised persons in accordance with company procedures.
Customer and Staff Assistance
- Provide a professional and helpful presence for drivers, customers, and staff.
- Assist customers with security-related concerns and general site safety.
- Provide guidance to drivers regarding parking and site rules where required.
Incident Response
- Respond promptly and appropriately to alarms, disturbances, and emergencies.
- Deal with accidents, medical emergencies, fires, and other incidents in accordance with site procedures.
- Use effective communication and de-escalation techniques when dealing with disputes or difficult situations.
- Contact the emergency services when required.
- Complete accurate incident reports and notify management of any significant issues.

Enforcing Site Rules
- Ensure customers and drivers comply with truck stop rules and regulations.
- Monitor parking arrangements, time restrictions, idling policies, and prohibited activities.
- Support the enforcement of health and safety requirements.
- Report any breaches of site policies to the appropriate manager.
Site Safety and Security Checks
- Regularly check the premises for potential hazards and security issues.
- Report broken lighting, damaged fencing, fuel or other liquid spills, and any other hazards promptly.
- Address issues such as excessive noise, improper parking, anti-social behavior, and illegal dumping in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of patrols, incidents, and security concerns.
Emergency Preparedness
- Act as a first responder to incidents and emergencies within the limits of your training.
- Follow emergency, evacuation, and fire procedures.
- Assist emergency services when they attend the site.
- Maintain clear communication with management and colleagues during incidents.
Professional Standards
- Maintain a professional, approachable, and vigilant manner at all times.
- Treat customers, colleagues, and members of the public with courtesy and respect.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding customers, staff, incidents, and company information.
- Wear the required uniform and personal protective equipment and maintain a professional appearance.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and legal requirements.

The Successful Candidate Will Be
- Reliable, punctual, and professional.
- Vigilant with excellent observation skills.
- Confident when dealing with members of the public.
- Calm and professional when dealing with difficult or challenging situations.
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Able to complete accurate written reports and maintain records.
- Flexible and willing to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays where required.
- Experienced in a security, customer service, transport, or similar environment would be advantageous.
