Security Officer - Farringdon, London
About the Role
As a Security Officer, you’ll play an important role in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming environment for everyone on site. You’ll be a visible, approachable and professional presence, combining strong security awareness with excellent customer service to protect people, property and premises.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:
- Deliver a professional front-of-house service and manage site access, acting as the first point of contact for staff, tenants, visitors and contractors. Monitor entrances, manage visitor and contractor access, maintain accurate site records and ensure everyone receives a welcoming and professional service.
- Monitor security systems and maintain site surveillance, including CCTV, access control and the fire alarm control panel. Respond appropriately to alerts, suspicious activity and system activations, taking the necessary action to maintain site security.
- Carry out regular internal and external patrols, covering public areas, tenant perimeters, loading bays and plant rooms. Inspect doors, barriers, locks and other physical security assets to identify vulnerabilities, faults or potential risks.
- Identify and report security, maintenance and health and safety concerns, including suspicious behaviour, security breaches, hazards and equipment faults. Escalate issues promptly and take appropriate action to help prevent incidents and protect site occupants.
- Respond effectively to incidents and emergencies, including fire alarms, medical emergencies, security incidents and challenging situations. Remain calm and professional, use appropriate conflict management techniques and demonstrate sound judgement and initiative when responding to incidents.
- Maintain accurate reporting and communication, completing detailed incident reports, site activity records and shift handover entries to the required standard. Communicate relevant information clearly to colleagues and ensure concerns are appropriately recorded and escalated.
- Maintain high professional standards and work collaboratively, demonstrating vigilance, reliability and initiative while working independently or alongside colleagues. Uphold Ward Security’s standards and deliver excellent customer service throughout every shift.
What We’re Looking For?
- A valid Door Supervisor SIA Licence is essential. A valid SIA CCTV Licence is preferred but not essential.
- Proven experience working as a Security Officer, ideally within a corporate, multi-tenant commercial or high-profile environment, with a strong understanding of security procedures and site operations.
- Ability to provide a minimum of 5 years' checkable employment, education and/or unemployment history in line with BS7858 vetting requirements.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with strong verbal and written English, a professional approach to engaging with staff, tenants, visitors and contractors, and the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate incident reports.
- Strong observation, surveillance and IT skills, including experience using security systems and software. You should be confident monitoring CCTV and access control systems, identifying suspicious activity and recognising potential security vulnerabilities.
- A calm, professional and proactive approach, with the ability to manage challenging situations, respond effectively to emergencies, use initiative and exercise sound judgement under pressure.
- Reliability, punctuality and flexibility, with a strong commitment to attendance and the ability to work a 4-on, 4-off rotating day and night shift pattern.
- High standards of personal presentation and teamwork, with a genuine commitment to professionalism, integrity, health and safety and delivering outstanding customer service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
