Job Description – Security Officer

Battersea Power Station

The key responsibilities of a Security Officer at Battersea Power Station, are to ensure the safety and security of the Estate, including its residents, property and visitors. Ultimately, the role holder’s duties will encompass the following core elements, prevent crime, protect property and preserve life. This is achieved by carrying out regular and effective patrols, maintaining alertness and visibility, as well as delivering exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, sound judgment and the ability to handle stressful situations professionally.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols and checks following a set rotation/schedule.
  • Remain vigilant at all times, reporting any suspicious activity to the Security Control Room and Duty Security Manager.
  • Respond to security incidents, disturbances and emergencies in a timely and professional manner.
  • Act promptly in case of emergencies, including fire, medical incidents and security threats.
  • Provide a professional and courteous approach to residents, guests and staff.
  • Communicate effectively with Estate management, service partners and emergency services.
  • Ensure Estate parking/pick up & drop off rules are adhered to.
  • Ensure correct uniform/PPE is worn appropriately at all times whilst on position.
  • To ensure possession of a working radio and to carry regular radio checks with the Security Control Room.
  • Provide information, directions and assistance to visitors and residents.
  • Consistently follow Estate & Security policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and keep up to date on industry knowledge.
  • Liaise with residents, Estate Management and emergency services when required.
  • Enforce Estate rules and standards in a respectful, effective and professional manner.
  • Monitor key entrance and exit points to prevent unauthorised access.
  • To carry out routine compliance/Health & Safety checks, such as, lift alarms, intercoms and fire/refuge point checks.
  • To participate in regular training and scenario exercises.
  • Challenge contractors and all works on/within the Estate, ensuring site permit to work procedures are being followed.
  • Assist with the provision of first aid.
  • Complete ad-hoc requests as required by Security and Estate management.
  • Take part in, weekly fire alarm testing.
  • To uphold the ‘five-star customer service’ attitude.
  • Provide assistance during evacuations and follow emergency response procedures.
  • De-escalate conflicts and manage potentially volatile situations calmly and effectively.
  • Serve as a visible deterrent and promote a safe, welcoming environment.

Person Specification

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle emergency situations.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Polite and professional demeanour.
  • Flexible to work shifts, including days, nights and weekends.
  • Strong observational and problem-solving skills
  • Physically fit to conduct security checks and patrols stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, respond promptly to emergencies and able to lift or restrain individuals if necessary and perform light physical tasks.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Proficiency in record keeping and report writing.
  • Alert and spatially aware.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • 5-year checkable employment history for security screening
  • Able to provide right to work in the UK documents.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence – Essential
  • Emergency First Aid at Work – Essential
  • Valid SIA CCTV PSS Licence – Desirable
  • Previous experience in the Private Security Industry or similar role - Desirable
  • Experience working in a high-end residential Estate or similar environment - Desirable

Hours

  • 42 hours per week Avg (4 days on 4 days off days and nights)

Shift times

  • 07:00- 19:00 / 19:00 -07:00 or 09:00 -21:00 /11:00 – 23:00 dependant on area of deployment

Rate of Pay

  • 15.13 per hour

  • Duty Security Manager/ Security Operations Manager
