About The Role
This is a frontline security role responsible for helping to protect the centre, its customers, colleagues, Brand Partners, visitors and assets. The Security Officer will provide a visible, professional and customer-focused security presence, supporting a safe, secure and welcoming environment across the centre.
Working in line with site Assignment Instructions, Mitie standards, Landsec requirements and relevant legislation, the role supports incident response, patrols, customer service, reporting, health and safety awareness and day-to-day security operations.
Key Responsibilities
Security Operations & Patrols
- Conduct visible patrols across internal, external, front-of-house and back-of-house areas in line with site requirements.
- Follow Assignment Instructions, post orders, site procedures and escalation routes at all times.
- Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, alarms, requests for assistance and operational priorities.
- Support the prevention and detection of crime, anti-social behaviour, security risks and disruption across the centre.
Guest Experience & Communication
- Deliver a professional, approachable and customer-focused service when engaging with guests, Brand Partners, colleagues and contractors.
- Use clear communication to support safe, calm and effective incident management.
- Maintain professionalism when dealing with difficult situations, challenging behaviour or vulnerable customers.
- Work collaboratively with the control room, supervisors, emergency services and wider centre teams.
Compliance, Safety & Reporting
- Comply with all legal, regulatory, health and safety, security and site-specific requirements.
- Report hazards, risks, suspicious activity and incidents promptly through the correct channels.
- Complete accurate, incident reports, statements and other required documentation.
- Maintain a valid SIA licence and support timely renewal in line with role requirements.
Teamwork, Standards & Development
- Work as part of the wider security and soft services team to support a safe and well-managed centre.
- Use site technology, radios and reporting systems effectively to support operational delivery.
- Complete required training and actively maintain role knowledge, competence and professional standards.
- Demonstrate commitment to Mitie values, One Code, Elevate principles and Landsec service expectations.
What We're Looking For
- Valid SIA Security Guarding or Door Supervisor licence, or willingness to maintain the required licence for the role.
- Previous security, retail, customer service or facilities experience desirable.
- Confident communicator with a calm, professional and customer-focused approach.
- Able to remain alert, use initiative and respond appropriately to changing situations.
- Good attention to detail, with the ability to complete accurate reports and records.
- Reliable, flexible and able to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- To carry out any reasonable instruction issued to you by a Mitie Manager or the client.

Personal Deportment
As a Mitie security officer, you are expected to dress and groom yourself in accordance with the company's standards, particularly if your job involves dealing with clients, customers and/or visitors on a regular basis.
A neat and smart appearance contributes to the positive impression you make. You are expected to be correctly attired (complete uniform) and groomed during working hours or when representing Mitie security.
All uniforms and PPE items shall be maintained to a clean and serviceable condition.
- Shirts and blouses must be clean and pressed.
- Shoes must be clean and polished.
- Hair should be neat and clean.
- Excessive jewellery should not be worn.
- High standards of personal appearance and hygiene are expected from all Mitie staff.
Your SIA licence is part of your uniform and must be always displayed.
Health And Safety Responsibilities
- To ensure you are fully aware of the Centres Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
- Follow Group and company policies and procedures at all times;
- Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment;
- Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received;
- Report any issues or training needs to your Supervisors and Line manager and/or via your divisional incident reporting system;
Information Security
- Ensure compliance with Mitie's information security procedures in all activities;
- Proactively identify and report security risks to your supervisor & line manager;
- Report actual and suspected security incidents; Incident reports are to be completed ASAP after the incident by all involved.
Customer Focus
- To have our customers' welfare and visiting experience at the forefront of your mind at all times.
- Take every possible step to go ‘above and beyond' in delivering Guest Experience.
- To provide a friendly welcome/farewell to every customer, where relevant, and be aware of any potential ‘added value' services you can give.
- Ensure all activities reflect and support the Buchanan Galleries brand.
- To handle customer complaints in a timeous, professional and courteous manner.
Desirable
- To have good working knowledge of the Centre, and its retailers, and the city centre. Also to have a good understanding of local city centre amenities to help with tourism, retail, accommodation and transport enquiries, and/or the skills to source relevant information quickly and efficiently.
