This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance [https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels]. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you’ve been recruited for. If it isn’t obtained, or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining SC security clearance can be a lengthy process, and we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made if the necessary security clearance isn’t obtained within 12 months.
Job description
The role of a Physical Security Operations Manager is to ensure the correct posture of physical and tactical resources to manage sites and maintain operational preparedness for security incidents.
We are currently looking for an Establishment Security Officer (ESyO) to join the NADG Non-Explosives Sites Team (NEST) general management group at MOD Ashchurch, with the responsibility of MOD Ludgershall. Our security professionals play a vital role in assessing, evaluating and implementing security policy and strategy within Project Teams, NADG Establishments and the wider Defence Industry community. You will have primary responsibility for the physical security and integrity of the whole site and will be required to work closely with multiple stakeholders and establishment lodger units in supporting and enabling security policy and procedures. Your main duties will include regular monitoring, audits and self-inspections of all aspects of physical security, creating/maintaining mandated site security policies and assisting the wider NEST security teams.

The successful candidate will be expected to attend the MOD Establishment Security Officers Course and Business Continuity training (residential and on-line) and could eventually become a member of the Security Institute.
Candidate would be responsible for Ludgershall site.
We champion flexible ways of working. Regular in-person attendance is required (this is expected to be approximately 60% of your working week) to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration alongside flexibility of hours to support work-life balance and business need. You will be expected to travel from Ashchurch to Ludgershall at least once a month to undertake perimeter and building security checks, therefore a full UK driving licence would be beneficial. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing SME advice at the appropriate organisational level on how to deliver proportional, practical security outcomes, within the parameters set by relevant regulation, policy and procedures and advise on any residual risk.
- Create and maintain mandated site security documentation (e.g. Site Security Instructions, Site Security Risk Register, Business Continuity Plans, Site Recovery Plan).
- Maintain physical security operations and governance structures to manage risk and deploy physical security effectively to protect assets and people across the business area.
- Plan, test and respond to security/emergency incidents or concerns, including those raised by third parties, to include preparing briefs on security issues for internal and external stakeholders.
- Comply with relevant internal and external security regulation and legislation and ensure these are adhered to by all staff, contractors and site visitors.
- Receive and investigate all submitted incident/occurrence reports.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of security fundamentals and the current threats to Defence assets.
- Liaison with local emergency services and Counter Terrorist Security Advisor (CTSA) to understand the current threats and trends affecting the landscape and how to mitigate against them.
- Promote protective security, educating personnel on the threat and providing SME advice to others.
- Carry out other Head of Establishment team activities/responsibilities to support additional site outputs as tasked.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Experience of delivering and implementing security activities.
- Demonstrable experience of leading multiple stakeholders to deliver effective security activities and Control Measures.
- Candidates must either hold the unit Security Officers Course qualification or be willing to achieve within the first 6 months of joining.
