Operational Responsibility and Authority

The Security Operations Manager will be expected to exercise sound judgement and take ownership of assigned operational requirements.

Within established NGS procedures and authority levels, the postholder will be expected to independently manage routine and medium-complexity security tasks, including planning, provider coordination, client communication, monitoring, and task closure.

Crisis and Emergency Response

As a global emergency assistance organisation, NGS may periodically experience significant increases in operational activity caused by security incidents, natural disasters, conflict, political instability, terrorism, major accidents, or other crises.

During such periods, the Security Operations Manager may be required to:

• Support activation of NGS crisis response arrangements.
• Assist with evacuation and relocation operations.
• Support traveller identification, location, and welfare activity.
• Coordinate security providers and other operational resources.
• Assist with route, border, airport, and transport assessments.
• Maintain operational logs and situation reporting.
• Support client communications and operational briefings.
• Work flexibly outside normal hours where reasonably required.

The ability to remain calm, organised, and professional during rapidly developing situations is therefore an important requirement of the position.

Essential Skills and Experience

Candidates should ideally demonstrate:

• Approximately three or more years of relevant experience within security, military, police, intelligence, emergency response, travel risk, operations, protective services, or a comparable environment.
• Experience of operational planning, coordination, case management, or security-related service delivery.
• An understanding of security risk management principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to research, assess and interpret security-related information.
• The ability to identify risk and develop practical and proportionate recommendations.
• Strong organisational and planning skills.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and changing operational requirements.
• Good attention to detail and record keeping.
• Confidence communicating with clients, travellers, service providers, and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently while recognising when escalation or additional support is required.
• Ability to remain calm and effective when operating under pressure.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Competence using standard business and operational technology.

Equivalent professional, military, police, or operational experience will be considered alongside formal qualifications.

Desirable Experience and Qualifications

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

• Degree or recognised qualification in security risk management, international relations, intelligence, crisis management, or a related discipline.
• Professional security or travel risk management qualification.
• Membership of an appropriate professional body.
• Experience within a 24/7 operations centre, emergency assistance company, travel risk provider, or security consultancy.
• Experience coordinating international security providers.
• Experience supporting operations in high-risk or complex environments.
• Experience conducting or contributing to security risk assessments.
• Knowledge of ISO 31000 and/or ISO 31030 principles.
• Crisis management or evacuation planning experience.
• Intelligence analysis or security monitoring experience.
• Training or instructional qualifications.
• Aviation knowledge or experience.
• Overseas operational experience.

Reporting Line

Reports to: Head of Security & Risk

Operational reporting/escalation: Operations Director and Chief Operating Officer as appropriate.

Works closely with: Head of Travel Risk, Head of Insurance Response, Global Operations Centre, Aviation & Evacuation Planning, Network, Medical, Client Services, and other NGS departments.

Location and Working Arrangements

The role is primarily office-based with normal working hours as follows:

• Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00

Due to the nature of NGS' 24/7 international operations, reasonable flexibility will be required.

This will also include:

• Out-of-hours operational support during crisis events.
• Participation in an on-call/Duty Security Manager roster.
• Support during major incidents, crises, or periods of significant operational demand.
• Occasional evening or weekend working.
• Overseas travel or deployment where required.

A flexible or hybrid working arrangement could be considered but subject to operational requirements and NGS policy.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: £45,000 per annum, plus other benefits to include:

• 28 days' annual leave, excluding UK statutory public holidays.
