Main Purpose of Job
Join G4S as a Security Operative and you will become part of a well-trained, tight knit team providing an essential, security service to the branch.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
The Role
We are looking for a rare type of individual for a role where previous experience is not essential as we’ll support the right candidate with training. Someone who cares about security. Has excellent attention to detail, appreciates that risk exists and is vigilant enough to spot it and take relevant actions, quickly and professionally, to deal with it. We call it Security Operative, but could just as easily call it Security Officer, Security Surveillance Operator, Security Concierge, CCTV Operator, or even Security Monitoring Specialist.
It certainly isn’t your typical front desk role. It’s wide-ranging and as the first point of contact in a highly regulated, high-security environment, you’ll combine security awareness with exceptional professionalism. Your focus will be to support safe operations by monitoring our premises, controlling access, managing visitor and vehicle flows, and maintaining site integrity - all while offering a helpful, confident presence.
At G4S Cash Solutions, our work underpins the secure movement of cash and valuables across the UK.
As a Security Operative you’ll play a critical role in our Secure Cash Centre in Edinburgh.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
