About the role
Security Operations is responsible for protecting the Bank’s people, buildings, assets, information, and operations. Working across a complex and high-profile estate, the function contributes to the Bank’s operational resilience and its responsibilities as part of the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure.
As a Security Supervisor, you will provide visible frontline leadership and oversee the safe, professional, and effective delivery of security operations. Your primary responsibility will be the day-to-day supervision of a designated Monday-to-Friday security cohort and associated public-facing, access-control, and external-interface activities.
You will allocate duties, maintain operational standards, support officer welfare and development, coordinate resources and make proportionate tactical decisions within your delegated authority. To maintain operational flexibility, you may also supervise or support wider Security Operations activity across Bank locations where you are appropriately trained, competent, and authorised.
This is a frontline supervisory role. Security Managers retain accountability for overall operational command, rostering, workforce planning, strategic direction, significant changes to operating arrangements and formal employee-relations decisions.
Key responsibilities
You will:
- Provide visible leadership and day-to-day supervision to in-house security personnel.
- Coordinate public-facing security, access control, screening, searches, vehicle, and delivery activity, guarding, and patrols.
- Translate management priorities into clear briefings, instructions, and operational tasking.
- Allocate duties, monitor post coverage, and maintain accurate information on personnel locations and operational commitments.
- Ensure personnel maintain high standards of vigilance, conduct, appearance, customer service, and procedural compliance.
- Respond to incidents, alarms, and emergencies, making timely and proportionate tactical decisions within delegated authority.
- Initiate approved security and emergency procedures, coordinate available resources, and maintain effective communication until responsibility transfers to a Security Manager or the emergency services.
- Ensure incidents, decisions, handovers, and operational activity are recorded and escalated appropriately.
- Address immediate concerns relating to standards, conduct or performance through instruction, feedback, and coaching, escalating serious or repeated concerns through the appropriate management arrangements.
- Support day-to-day attendance, sickness, welfare, and development matters within the boundaries of the role.
- Conduct proportionate checks of posts, equipment, records and operational delivery, supporting audits, exercises, and assurance activity.
- Deliver operational briefings and task-specific instruction, identify training needs, and communicate learning from incidents and exercises.
- Apply security controls firmly, consistently, proportionately, and respectfully.
- Build effective working relationships with Bank colleagues, contracted security providers, visitors, contractors, senior stakeholders, emergency services, and external security partners.
- Contribute frontline knowledge and operational feedback to reviews and service improvements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
