Role Description
As a Self Employed Business Development Manager at Global 28 Logistics, you will be responsible for identifying, prospecting, and securing new business opportunities across air, road, and sea freight services. You will build and maintain relationships with clients, understand their logistics requirements, and develop tailored service proposals that highlight speed, security, and sustainability. On a work as you wish basis, you will manage your own sales pipeline, conduct client meetings and site visits, prepare quotations, negotiate terms, and collaborate with our operations team to ensure smooth service delivery. You will also monitor market trends, competitors, and customer feedback to refine business development strategies and support revenue growth.

This opportunity is offered on an independent contractor basis, rather than employment with Global 28 Logistics. Payment is solely through commission on qualifying business generated, under an agreed written commission structure. There is no basic salary, hourly pay or guaranteed income.
The successful applicant will be responsible for managing their own tax affairs, including declaring their income, completing any required HMRC registrations and tax returns, and paying applicable Income Tax and National Insurance.
Commission rates, how commission is calculated and payment terms will be agreed in writing before work begins.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in business development, sales, or account management, ideally within logistics, freight, or supply chain sectors.
- Strong skills in lead generation, prospecting, and closing deals, with the ability to manage a self-directed sales pipeline and meet revenue targets.
- Ability to build long-term client relationships, understand customer needs, and offer consultative solutions aligned with service capabilities.
- Knowledge of air, road, and sea freight operations, including pricing structures, service options, and industry regulations, is highly beneficial.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with confident interpersonal abilities in both one-to-one and group settings.
- Comfort working on a self-employed basis, including managing time, priorities, and basic commercial administration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to interpret market data, customer feedback, and performance metrics.
- Proficiency in using CRM tools, office software, and digital platforms for tracking opportunities, preparing proposals, and reporting activity.
- Understanding of or interest in sustainable and carbon-neutral logistics practices and their value for modern businesses.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to attend on-site client meetings and industry events as needed.
- Relevant education in business, logistics, or a related field is an advantage, though equivalent experience is also valued.
