1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant – Leatherhead, Surrey
Milk Education are working in partnership with a specialist SEND school near Leatherhead who are seeking a dedicated and resilient 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs on a full-time basis.
This rewarding role involves providing tailored 1:1 support to help young people engage with learning, regulate their emotions and build positive relationships within the school environment. The school is looking for someone patient, nurturing and consistent who can act as a positive role model and make a genuine difference to pupils' educational journeys.
Teaching Assistant – Role & Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Support emotional regulation and implement behaviour support strategies.
- Encourage engagement in lessons and learning activities.
- Promote inclusion, confidence and independence.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to ensure pupils' needs are met.
- Prepare resources and adapt learning activities where required.
- Help create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Recent and relevant experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
- Previous experience within a specialist SEND school, alternative provision, mainstream school, youth work or care setting is desirable.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- A passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve their potential.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a team.
