SEMH Maths Teacher | Primary to Secondary Transition | Alternative Provision | Full-Time | September Start | Thurrock

Are you a Maths Teacher passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and make a successful transition into secondary education?

A specialist Alternative Provision (AP) in Thurrock is seeking a dedicated and resilient Maths Teacher to support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs as they prepare to transition from primary into secondary education. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who enjoys working with young people who may have struggled in mainstream settings and who can adapt Maths teaching to different abilities, confidence levels and learning needs.

The Role

As a SEMH Maths Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging Maths lessons to pupils preparing to transition into secondary education.
  • Teach across upper primary and early secondary Maths, adapting content to individual starting points.
  • Identify and address gaps in mathematical knowledge and confidence.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils who may have experienced difficulties in mainstream education.
  • Use consistent, positive behaviour strategies to create a safe and structured learning environment.
  • Support pupils to develop independence, resilience and confidence in Maths.
  • Monitor academic and pastoral progress and contribute to individual learning plans.
  • Work closely with pastoral staff, families and other professionals to support successful transitions.
  • Help pupils develop the skills and confidence needed to re-engage with education and progress into their next stage of learning.

What We're Looking For

  • QTS is desirable/essential depending on experience.
  • Strong Maths subject knowledge.
  • Experience working with primary or secondary-aged pupils.
  • Experience with SEMH, SEND, behaviour or Alternative Provision is advantageous.
  • Patient, resilient and adaptable.
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
  • A genuine commitment to helping vulnerable young people succeed.

ECTs and teachers from either Primary or Secondary backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
