Pay: £200-£250 per day, depending on experience

SEMH Teacher - Totnes

Luma Education Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a specialist school in Totnes, Devon, seeking a committed and experienced SEMH Teacher to join their teaching team.

This position would suit a teacher who is passionate about working with young people who may experience social, emotional and mental health difficulties, behavioural challenges, anxiety, low confidence or barriers to accessing education.

You will provide engaging and structured teaching while creating a supportive classroom environment in which pupils can develop academically, socially and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

In This Role, You Will

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs
  • Take account of pupils' abilities, starting points and learning requirements
  • Support students with SEMH, behavioural and additional learning needs
  • Set clear expectations and establish consistent classroom routines
  • Develop positive, respectful relationships with pupils
  • Adapt teaching approaches to maintain engagement and encourage participation
  • Promote confidence, independence and resilience
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour
  • Monitor attainment, progress and individual development
  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants and pastoral colleagues
  • Contribute to individual support and education plans
  • Maintain a safe, calm and purposeful learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

The Successful Candidate Will Ideally Have

  • Experience teaching pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs
  • A recognised teaching qualification, with QTS or equivalent desirable
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach
  • The ability to build effective relationships with pupils who may be disengaged from education
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence adapting lessons and resources to suit individual learners
  • Resilience and flexibility when supporting complex needs
  • A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve positive outcomes

Experience within an SEMH school, specialist setting, alternative provision, PRU or SEN environment would be advantageous.
