We're recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in Tiverton ASAP, supporting children and young people who need additional help to engage positively with learning and school life.
Help Young People Regulate, Re-Engage and Progress
You'll work alongside experienced education professionals to provide consistent, individualised support.
Pupils may have SEMH needs alongside Autism, ADHD, communication difficulties or additional learning needs.
You'll help young people understand and manage their emotions while gradually developing the confidence and strategies they need to participate more independently.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support.
- Building positive and consistent relationships with pupils.
- Supporting emotional regulation and agreed behaviour strategies.
- Helping young people recognise triggers and develop coping strategies.
- Supporting pupils to re-engage with learning following difficult moments.
- Following individual education and support plans.
- Adapting activities around different learning needs.
- Encouraging communication, independence and positive social interaction.
- Supporting transitions, breaks and activities outside the classroom.
- Working closely with teachers, therapists and other specialist staff.
- Sharing relevant observations about pupil progress and wellbeing.

Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs would be beneficial.
You'll need excellent relationship-building skills, resilience and the ability to remain calm and consistent when situations become challenging.
Candidates should also hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle, due to the location and requirements of the role.
