Role Description

The Semi Senior Accountant role is a part-time, on-site position based in Saffron Walden. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Preparing statutory accounts for sole traders and limited companies.
  • Assisting with tax returns for individuals and businesses.
  • Maintaining accurate bookkeeping records.
  • Processing payroll.
  • Reconciling accounts to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Liaising with clients to gather information.
  • Explaining financial reports.
  • Providing basic advice under the guidance of senior team members.

Additional tasks may include:

  • Supporting the implementation of accounting software.
  • Contributing to process improvements.
  • Assisting colleagues during busy periods.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical accounting skills, including preparation of accounts, bookkeeping, reconciliations, and basic tax computations.
  • Experience with payroll processing and familiarity with relevant UK tax and payroll regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and cloud-based tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, or similar), plus good Excel skills.
  • Effective communication and client service skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly and build positive relationships.
  • Good organizational and time-management abilities, including managing multiple client deadlines and maintaining accurate records.
  • Relevant accounting qualifications or progress toward ACCA, ACA, AAT, or equivalent, and experience in a practice environment is highly beneficial.
  • Attention to detail, integrity, and a collaborative working style suited to a small, client-focused team.
