HS Accountants and Consultants - Semi-Senior Accountant Opportunity
HS Accountants and Consultants are looking for an experienced part-time Semi-Senior Accountant to join our growing team.
The role will involve bookkeeping, preparation of annual accounts, VAT returns and self-assessment tax returns for a range of clients.
The successful candidate must have relevant hands-on experience within an accountancy practice and be confident carrying out the core responsibilities of the role with minimal supervision. We are looking for someone with sufficient practical experience to hit the ground running and take responsibility for completing their work accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare annual accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships
- Prepare self-assessment tax returns
- Assist with the preparation of corporation tax returns and computations
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records for multiple clients
- Prepare and review VAT returns
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
- Review client accounting records and identify missing information, errors or discrepancies
- Maintain accurate working papers and supporting schedules
- Ensure accounting software and client records are complete and up to date
- Liaise with clients to obtain information and records required to complete accounts and tax work
- Ensure work is completed accurately and within relevant filing and internal deadlines
- Maintain accurate client records and documentation
- Assist with other accounting and administrative tasks as required

Requirements
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice is essential
- Practical experience preparing annual accounts is essential
- Practical experience preparing self-assessment tax returns is essential
- Strong bookkeeping experience, including working with multiple clients
- Experience preparing VAT returns and performing balance sheet reconciliations
- Good working knowledge of Xero and/or QuickBooks
- Good Microsoft Excel skills
- Able to complete routine accounts, tax and bookkeeping work with minimal supervision
- Relevant practical accountancy experience is more important than formal qualification status. Applicants may be qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience, but must have the hands-on experience required to perform the role

Working Hours and Salary
There are two part-time working patterns available, the successful candidate will work one of the following:
Option 1 – Five Days per Week
- Monday to Friday, 9:45am–2:00pm
- 21.25 hours per week
- Actual salary: £18,508–£19,890 per annum, depending on experience
Option 2 – Three Days per Week
- Monday to Wednesday, 9:00am–5:30pm
- One-hour unpaid lunch break each day
- 22.5 paid hours per week
- Actual salary: £19,597–£21,060 per annum, depending on experience
These salaries are equivalent to a full-time salary of £32,662–£35,100 per annum, based on a 37.5-hour working week.
The role is office-based at our South Croydon office.
