Role Purpose
The Accounts Senior supports the delivery of high-quality accounting and tax services across a portfolio of healthcare-sector clients. The role exists to ensure complex accounts, tax returns, and compliance work are completed accurately and on time, while providing strong client management, technical guidance, and leadership within the team. As a senior member of the department, the role contributes to workflow oversight, development of junior staff, and the progression of AMS Medical’s advisory-led service model.
Due to a sustained period of growth, generated from the success of our existing team, we are pleased to announce an opportunity for a Semi Senior Accountant to join us in our Manchester City Centre office. This is a permanent role and for the right person the perfect development role with both exposure and progression limited only by your own individual abilities and commitment.
The team you will join forms part of the overall group that services a multitude of different people and businesses via the various divisions we work from.
Over the past ten plus years there has been growth across all departments and with this the team has grown from twenty-five to over two hundred employees.
Despite this a friendly, sociable and feel-good environment is maintained and the specific team you will be joining has a young core that proves to be a hotbed for development.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review complex statutory accounts and tax returns (limited and unincorporated), ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery across a portfolio of high-value clients.
- Support managers with departmental workflow, deadlines, and client delivery, building a deep understanding of client needs and preparing for future progression into management.
- Act as a lead client contact, managing relationships, responding to queries, and liaising with internal and external specialists to support high-net-worth individuals and healthcare-sector businesses.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and oversight to junior team members, supporting their development, reviewing their work, and ensuring consistent quality across the department.
- Lead on cloud-based accounting software adoption, supporting client migrations, delivering training sessions, and ensuring readiness for Making Tax Digital.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency, and enhanced client experience within the division.
- Maintain high standards of documentation, record-keeping, and compliance across all client files.
- Contribute to the wider AMS Medical team culture by demonstrating professionalism, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Experience
- Strong experience working in an accountancy practice (4+ years).
- Experience managing or supporting a portfolio of clients.
- Experience acting as a lead client communicator or first responder.
- Experience supporting junior staff with workflow, output, and development.

Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of cloud accounting platforms (Xero and QuickBooks preferred).
- Strong understanding of accounting standards, tax compliance, and healthcare-sector nuances.
- Confident preparing complex accounts and tax returns.
- Strong IT, numeracy, and written communication skills.
Qualifications
Formal qualifications required or preferred (e.g. ACA, CIPD, degree).
Essential
- GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English at grade C/4 or above.
Desirable
- AAT Level 4, ACCA part-qualified, or fully qualified.
- Cloud accounting certifications (e.g., Xero Advisor, QuickBooks ProAdvisor).
Performance Measures (Success Criteria)
- Accuracy and timely delivery of accounts and tax returns across assigned client portfolio.
- High client satisfaction and strong relationship management.
- Effective support of departmental workflow and deadlines.
- Demonstrated development and support of junior team members.
- Successful delivery of cloud-migration activities and MTD readiness.
- Contribution to continuous improvement initiatives within AMS Medical.
- Positive feedback from managers and peers regarding collaboration and professionalism.
