Are you an experienced Practice Accountant looking to join a friendly, forward-thinking accountancy firm where your contribution will be genuinely valued? Hays Accountancy & Finance is delighted to be working with a well-established and growing independent accountancy practice in Teesside, seeking a Semi-Senior Accountant to join their supportive and collaborative team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further develop their career within practice, working closely with a diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses across a variety of sectors.
Your new role
As a Semi-Senior Accountant, you will take ownership of a portfolio of clients, building strong relationships whilst delivering a broad range of accountancy and advisory services. You'll work alongside experienced professionals in a business that truly values flexibility, professional development, and work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation and review of statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
- Preparation of management accounts and financial reports.
- Completion of VAT returns and corporation tax computations.
- Preparation of self-assessment and partnership tax returns.
- Supporting bookkeeping activities and reviewing financial records.
- Ensuring Companies House and HMRC filing deadlines are met.
- Managing and developing relationships with a portfolio of clients.
- Acting as a key point of contact for client queries and providing proactive support.
- Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team.
- Working closely with senior management to deliver exceptional client service.

What you'll need to succeed
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice environment.
- ACA, ACCA, or AAT qualification, part-qualification, or be qualified by experience.
- Experience preparing year-end accounts and tax returns.
- Strong knowledge of VAT and corporation tax compliance.
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
- The ability to manage your own workload and prioritise effectively.
- Experience using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar cloud-based systems.
- A positive, proactive attitude and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
