Semi Senior / Senior Accountant – Accountancy Practice
Location: Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire
Salary: £30,000 – £45,000 DOE
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Sector: Accountancy Practice
Qualification: ACA / ACCA Finalist, Part-Qualified or Qualified
The Opportunity
We are working with an established and growing accountancy practice in Newcastle-under-Lyme that is looking to appoint a Semi Senior or Senior Accountant to join its team.
This is a varied, client-facing position offering exposure across statutory accounts, bookkeeping, VAT, management accounts, and tax compliance.
The firm is open on level and would consider an ACA/ACCA Finalist through to a fully qualified ACA/ACCA Accountant, with the responsibilities and package tailored to experience.
You will work with a varied portfolio of SMEs, owner-managed businesses, limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders, taking responsibility for accounts preparation and day-to-day client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing year-end statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders
- Preparing accounts in accordance with UK GAAP, FRS 102, and FRS 105
- Preparing management accounts and financial reports
- Preparing and reviewing VAT returns
- Undertaking bookkeeping and reviewing client bookkeeping records
- Preparing and assisting with Corporation Tax computations and returns
- Completing bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Working with incomplete client records and resolving accounting queries
- Liaising directly with clients to obtain information and answer day-to-day queries
- Supporting clients with accounting software and bookkeeping matters
- Ensuring accounts and compliance work is completed accurately and within deadlines
- Working closely with Managers and Partners across the practice
- For more experienced candidates, reviewing work prepared by junior members of the team and providing support and guidance

About You
To be considered, you should have:
- Previous experience working within a UK accountancy practice
- ACA or ACCA Finalist, Part-Qualified or Qualified status
- Strong experience preparing statutory accounts
- Experience working with limited companies and owner-managed businesses
- Good understanding of VAT and bookkeeping
- Exposure to Corporation Tax compliance
- Good knowledge of UK accounting standards
- Confidence communicating directly with clients
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Experience with accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, IRIS, or similar
