Description
As a Semi Senior Accountant, you will play an important role within our Business Services team, supporting our Managers and Senior Accountants in delivering high-quality accounting and business support services to a varied portfolio of clients. You will work with a diverse client base including sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, high earners, and property investors.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious accountant looking to develop their technical skills and progress their career within a supportive and professional accountancy environment. You will gain exposure to a broad range of accounting and business services work, with opportunities to develop your knowledge across accounts preparation, bookkeeping, management accounts, and client support.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Managers and Senior Accountants to assist in the delivery of accounting and business services work across their client portfolios.
- Take responsibility for completing allocated client assignments accurately, efficiently, and within agreed deadlines.
- Prepare accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records using cloud accounting software such as Xero.
- Prepare management accounts and other financial information where required.
- Assist with day-to-day client queries, providing clear, professional, and practical responses and referring more complex matters to the relevant Manager or Senior Accountant where appropriate.
- Build strong working relationships with clients and provide a professional and responsive service.
- Provide clients with practical support and guidance on accounting software, bookkeeping processes, and financial record keeping.
- Assist clients with improving their accounting processes, systems, and procedures.
- Support clients with the implementation and effective use of cloud accounting software and other relevant systems.
- Keep Managers and Senior Accountants informed of assignment progress, potential issues, and any matters requiring further consideration or escalation.
- Assist with the preparation of information required for tax compliance work, working closely with the firm's Tax team where appropriate.
- Assist with reviewing bookkeeping records and accounts work to ensure a high standard of accuracy and completeness.
- Assist Managers and Senior Accountants in planning and coordinating assignments to ensure deadlines and client expectations are met.
- Continue to develop technical knowledge and practical experience across accounting and business services.
- Keep up to date with changes in accounting standards, technology, and relevant professional requirements.
- Contribute to the firm's business growth by delivering excellent client service, identifying opportunities to add value, and supporting the firm's wider commercial objectives.

Key Requirements
- A minimum of 2–3 years' relevant experience in an accountancy practice or similar professional environment.
- A strong academic background with relevant accounting experience, ideally AAT qualified and working towards an ACA or ACCA qualification.
- Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in accounts preparation and bookkeeping.
- Experience preparing accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
- A good understanding of accounting principles and the ability to apply technical knowledge confidently in practice.
- Good working knowledge of cloud accounting software, particularly Xero.
- Experience working with a range of clients and the ability to communicate confidently and professionally with them.
- Ability to take responsibility for allocated assignments and work independently, while knowing when to seek guidance or escalate matters to a Manager or Senior Accountant.
- Strong commitment to continued professional development and progressing towards an ACA or ACCA qualification.
- Positive, proactive, and professional approach, with a willingness to take responsibility for delivering high-quality work.
- Professional and mature approach when dealing with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice and exposure to a varied client portfolio.
