SEN Post:16 Support Worker: Near Bottisham and Surrounding Areas

Are you an energetic, patient, and practical individual passionate about helping young adults with SEN transition successfully into adulthood and independent living? Whether you are seeking the complete freedom and flexibility of day-to-day cover, or looking for the rewarding continuity and deep connection of a long-term role, we have fantastic opportunities tailored to your availability.

We are currently partnering with specialist SEN schools near Bottisham. We are experiencing high demand for supportive, reliable Post-16 Support Workers to assist students aged 16+ with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in a social learning environment.

Please Note: Due to the location of the provisions and the requirement to support students with off-site community access, vocational trips, and independence training, a valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to young adults (aged 16+) with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate/Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Physical Disabilities, or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Support students in developing essential functional life skills, including travel training, budgeting, cooking, personal hygiene, and independent living skills.
  • Accompany students on off-site vocational placements, community access visits, and practical work experience trips (using personal transport where required).
  • Assist tutors in delivering functional skills (English, Maths, ICT) and vocational learning modules tailored to individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Assist with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and positive behaviour management, using gentle de-escalation techniques.
  • Support personal care duties where applicable (hygiene, changing, and mobility support), upholding student dignity, respect, and independence at all times.

What We Look For

  • Essential: A valid UK Driver's Licence and access to a reliable car.
  • Previous experience supporting young people or adults with Special Educational Needs, complex health needs, or physical disabilities (in educational, residential, care, or support work environments).
  • A warm, resilient, patient, and non-judgemental approach with a strong commitment to promoting independence in young adults.
  • Willingness and confidence to support personal care needs where required by pupil EHCPs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to establish positive, professional relationships with young learners.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness for one).
