SEN Teaching Assistant - Anfield, Merseyside

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
We are currently seeking a caring, patient, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Anfield, Liverpool on a full-time basis, starting in September 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated individual who is passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs and helping them overcome barriers to learning. The school provides specialist support for pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), communication difficulties, and complex learning needs.

The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the wider SEN team to provide personalised support for pupils both within the classroom and through targeted interventions. You will play an essential role in helping pupils access learning, develop social and communication skills, and achieve their individual goals.

- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of SEND needs.
- Support pupils to access classroom activities and develop independence in their learning.
- Assist the class teacher with delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities.
- Support the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual pupil targets.
- Encourage pupils' communication, confidence, emotional wellbeing, and social development.
- Use positive behaviour support strategies to help pupils regulate emotions and engage positively with learning.
- Support pupils with personal care, mobility, or additional needs where required.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals to provide consistent support.
- Assist with preparing learning resources and maintaining a safe, structured classroom environment.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues while promoting safeguarding and pupil welfare.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs is desirable.
- A Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable but not essential.
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication needs, or complex learning difficulties would be advantageous.
- A calm, patient, and nurturing approach with the ability to build trusting relationships.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- The resilience and flexibility required to support pupils with a range of additional needs.
- An understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
- A genuine passion for helping children and young people achieve their potential.
