SEN Learning Support Assistant
Location: Shrewsbury, SY1
Contract: Long-term
Day Rate: £110-£125
Start Date: September 2026
Commutable From: Telford, Oswestry, Wellington, Market Drayton, Bridgnorth
The Opportunity
Long Term Futures is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a well-established specialist SEN school in the SY1 area of Shrewsbury.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting pupils from EYFS through to Post-16, working with children and young people with a wide range of complex additional needs. You will play a vital role in helping pupils access a personalised curriculum, develop communication and independence, and achieve their individual EHCP outcomes.
The school is part of a respected Multi-Academy Trust and operates across multiple specialist sites, each designed to meet the needs of different age groups and abilities. The provision is exceptionally well-resourced, offering an outstanding environment where pupils can thrive through specialist teaching, therapeutic support, and state-of-the-art facilities.

Your Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with a range of complex SEN needs across EYFS to Post-16
- Support pupils to access learning through personalised strategies linked to EHCP outcomes
- Promote communication, independence, emotional regulation, and social development
- Work alongside teachers, therapists, and wider multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality support
- Assist with sensory regulation using specialist resources and therapeutic environments
- Encourage positive behaviour and engagement through structured routines and consistent support
- Adapt learning activities to meet the individual needs of each pupil
- Contribute to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN within a school or specialist setting
- Experience working with pupils with Autism (ASD), complex learning difficulties, communication needs, or physical disabilities is desirable
- Comfortable supporting pupils across a range of ages from EYFS through to Post-16
- Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach to supporting children with additional needs
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Passion for inclusive education and helping every pupil achieve their potential
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
