Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or Youth Support Worker looking for a role in Plymouth?

Randstad Education is recruiting a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to support young people re-engaging with education. This unique role blends classroom support with community-based learning, helping vulnerable students build independence, social skills, and educational confidence outside of a traditional school setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educational Re-Engagement: Support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to rebuild confidence and re-enter structured learning environments.
  • Community-Based Learning: Accompany and guide young people during off-site educational visits, practical life-skills training, and local community projects.
  • 1:1 and Small Group Mentoring: Provide tailored emotional, behavioural, and academic support aligned with individual EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets.
  • Behaviour Management: Utilise positive reinforcement and calm de-escalation strategies to manage challenging situations.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside teachers, carers, and educational specialists to track and record student progress.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Care Worker, or Youth Worker in Plymouth or surrounding areas.
  • Skills: Strong passion for supporting young people with SEN, SEMH, autism (ASD), or disaffected behaviours.
  • Availability: Must be available for full-time work (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday-Friday).
  • Safeguarding: Must hold or be willing for an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service.
