SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH – Croydon

Location: Croydon, South London

Salary: £90–£100 per day

Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary

Start date: 21 September 2026

A forward-thinking school in Croydon is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. The school provides a structured, nurturing environment and is looking for someone who can combine empathy with clear, consistent boundaries.

This SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH role will involve building trusted relationships and helping pupils access learning during challenging moments. You will work with teaching, pastoral and SEN colleagues to deliver personalised strategies that promote progress and independence.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support pupils one-to-one and in small groups
  • Help implement behaviour, regulation and learning plans
  • Use restorative and de-escalation strategies appropriately
  • Encourage engagement, resilience and positive peer relationships
  • Track progress and share relevant observations with colleagues
  • Respond professionally to incidents and safeguard pupil welfare

We are seeking candidates with:

  • Relevant experience with SEMH, challenging behaviour or alternative provision
  • Emotional resilience and strong professional boundaries
  • A calm, reliable and solution-focused approach
  • Team Teach or similar training, desirable
  • The right to work in the UK
