SEMH SEN Teaching Assistant
Haringey, North London
Primary school
Long-term, full-time role through agency
ASAP start
Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm
- Providing 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs
- Supporting a child with challenging behaviour
- Supporting the pupil with their academic, social and emotional development
- Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team
SEN Teaching Assistant: Key Responsibilities
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, You Will
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs.
- Support a child who can display challenging and unpredictable behaviour.
- Build a strong, trusting and positive relationship with the pupil.
- Support the pupil to manage their emotions and regulate their behaviour.
- Encourage positive behaviour and help maintain clear and consistent boundaries.
- Support the pupil with their academic learning and development.
- Adapt activities and approaches to meet the pupils individual needs.
- Keep the pupil engaged, motivated and focused throughout the school day.
- Support the pupil during transitions, break times and other less structured periods.
- Be proactive and responsive to the pupils needs throughout the day.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team.

SEN Teaching Assistant: About You
The Successful SEN Teaching Assistant Will Have
- Previous experience supporting children with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs, desirable.
- Experience working with challenging behaviour, desirable.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- A confident and consistent approach to behaviour management.
- Plenty of energy and enthusiasm, this is a role where you will need to be on your feet and on the ball
- Ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- A proactive and flexible approach.
- Ability to think on your feet and respond quickly to changing situations.
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
- The resilience and commitment required to provide consistent 1:1 support.
