SEN Teaching Assistant - Specialist SEN School
Location: Edgware, North West London
Pay: £108.68-£115 per day
Contract Type: Full-time | Temporary to Permanent
Start Date: ASAP
Commutable from: Barnet, Harrow, Brent, Stanmore, Burnt Oak, Hendon and Mill Hill.
Long Term Futures is recruiting a caring and dependable SEN Teaching Assistant for a specialist SEN school in Edgware. This is a rewarding opportunity to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop independence and celebrate achievements that make a real difference to their everyday lives.
Supporting pupils with additional learning, communication and emotional needs, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider support team to make learning accessible and engaging. The role would suit someone who brings patience, consistency and a practical approach, and understands the importance of adapting support to each pupil.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small group support, helping pupils participate in lessons and wider school activities.
- Support personalised learning that reflects pupils' needs, abilities and EHCP outcomes.
- Break activities into manageable steps and adapt resources under the direction of the class teacher.
- Help pupils develop communication, social skills and confidence in expressing their needs.
- Encourage independence through classroom routines and everyday tasks.
- Use positive behaviour strategies to support engagement and emotional regulation.
- Recognise when pupils need additional reassurance, sensory support or a change of approach.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals to provide consistent support.
- Share observations about pupils' progress, participation and wellbeing.
- Maintain a safe, welcoming and structured environment, following safeguarding procedures at all times.

Essential Candidate Requirements
- Experience in a Teaching Assistant, SEN TA, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Care Worker, Support Worker or similar role.
- A calm, patient approach and the ability to build trusting relationships with children and young people.
- Clear communication skills and a willingness to work closely with colleagues.
- Flexibility to adapt your support to different learning and communication needs.
- A commitment to helping pupils develop confidence, independence and meaningful skills.
- Availability for a full-time, long-term position.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new Enhanced DBS check.
