SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Northstowe, Cambridgeshire

Start Date: Immediate / ASAP

Contract: Full-Time (5 days a week) - Long-Term / Ongoing

Salary: GBP95 - GBP110 per day (dependent on experience)

Are you an empathetic, proactive support professional looking for a fulfilling role as an SEN Teaching Assistant?

Randstad Education is currently seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant, modern school community in Northstowe. Working full-time (5 days a week), this role is centered on delivering targeted, person-centred support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and specialist support teams to create an inclusive, safe, and encouraging learning environment where every child feels empowered to achieve.

Key Responsibilities

  • One-to-One and Small Group Support: As a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored learning support, guiding SEN pupils through classroom activities and adapted tasks.
  • Behaviour and Sensory Regulation: Implement positive behavior management strategies, sensory breaks, and visual routines to help students remain engaged and feel supported throughout the school day.
  • Promote Independence: Assist SEN students in developing essential life skills, social communication, emotional resilience, and classroom confidence.
  • Collaborate with SENCO and Specialists: Track pupil progress, maintain observational notes, and work closely with the SENCO, speech therapists, and educational psychologists to adapt support plans.
  • Foster Inclusion: Help adapt curriculum materials and create learning aids to ensure all practical and academic activities are fully accessible for your assigned pupils.

Candidate Profile

We are searching for a compassionate, reliable SEN Teaching Assistant with strong interpersonal skills and a genuine interest in special education support.

  • Prior experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, learning support assistant, care worker, or youth support specialist is highly advantageous.
  • Understanding of various educational needs (e.g., Autism spectrum condition, ADHD, Down Syndrome, SEMH, or complex needs).
  • Calm, patient, and adaptable approach with strong de-escalation skills and emotional maturity.
  • Punctual and able to commit to a full-time timetable (5 days a week, Monday to Friday).
  • Holds an Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or readiness to process one immediately through Randstad).
