SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1): Year 2 ASD Support

Location: Romford

Start Date: September 2026

Contract: Long-term

Pay: £14.24 per hour

We are seeking a caring and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Romford from September 2026. This is a long-term opportunity to provide 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who has limited verbal communication.

This role is ideal for someone who is kind, patient, and nurturing, with the ability to build a trusting relationship and communicate effectively using a range of supportive strategies. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to help the pupil access learning, develop communication skills, and thrive within the classroom environment.

The Role

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with ASD.
  • Support the pupil's communication, learning, and social development.
  • Use a calm, patient, and consistent approach throughout the school day.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil's individual needs.
  • Encourage independence while offering reassurance and guidance.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to support the pupil's progress.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience supporting children with ASD and/or additional needs is desirable.
  • Understanding of supporting children with limited verbal communication.
  • Kind, patient, and compassionate, with a nurturing approach.
  • Able to build positive relationships and create a safe, supportive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Passionate about helping children achieve their full potential.
