SEN Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEND School Based
Location: Maidenhead
Milk Education is working with a specialist SEND school in Maidenhead to recruit a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant who genuinely wants to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people with additional needs.
This role is suited to someone who is patient, caring and passionate about supporting pupils to feel safe, understood and included in their learning. You will be supporting learners within a specialist SEND setting, helping them access education, develop independence and achieve their individual goals.
The pupils may have a range of additional needs, including Autism, complex learning difficulties, communication needs, physical disabilities and SEMH needs. A calm, nurturing approach and the ability to build strong relationships with learners are essential.
Both full-time and part-time positions are available, offering flexibility to suit your availability.
SEN Teaching Assistant Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils within a specialist SEND classroom
- Support the class teacher with delivering engaging and accessible learning activities
- Assist pupils with their individual learning goals and Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs)
- Encourage communication, independence, confidence and social development
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff to meet pupils’ individual needs
- Adapt activities and resources to support different learning styles and abilities
- Support pupils with personal care where required, including toileting, moving and handling and other care needs (training provided)
- Help create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every pupil can thrive

SEN Teaching Assistant Person Specification:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND is desirable
- Experience working with Autism, complex needs, PMLD, SEMH or communication difficulties is advantageous
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- A patient, caring and non-judgemental approach
- Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt to individual learners
- Ability to work proactively both independently and as part of a team
- Confidence supporting pupils both academically and emotionally
- An Enhanced DBS certificate on the update service (or willingness to apply)
