Team: Children’s services – SEND Specialist Services
Job Family: Advising - CBG13
Salary: £51,471 - £55,585 per annum pro rata
Hours: 37 hours per week (part time will be considered) - 5 positions available
Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.
Contract type: Hybrid - Permanent

About the role:
The SEND Advisory Team is based within the Children and Families directorate and provides advice and support to 128 lower, primary, middle, secondary and upper schools across Central Bedfordshire.
As a SEND Advisor you will:
- Be a part of the Experts at Hand, and coordinate Team Around the School meetings.
- Visit schools and SENDCOs to develop strategies to support young people with SEND.
- Provide impartial advice in respect of specific cases and more general practice.
- Quality assure annual reviews and provision in schools.
- Deliver training to SENCOs and schools to ensure a graduated approach is taken regarding the support of SEND provision.
You will also work with other CBC officers to:
- Establish regular meetings and training.
- Encourage the sharing of good practice.
- Support the statutory SEND Team and the statutory processes.
- Attend panel meetings to provide advice and support with decision around assessments and school placements.
To join us, you’ll need to be a trained teacher with a background gained in a school or a local authority setting. It is important that your experience includes time spent as a SENDCO or similar, and that you have a proven record of working with children with a Special Educational Need as well as working successfully alongside parents and education professionals. You will have gained the National Award for SEN (NASENCO) or NPQ SEND.

You will need to be able to build strong and productive relationships, inspire others and have a strong specialist knowledge in respect of SEND. Knowledge of safeguarding legislation regarding young people will also be essential.

All new starters will join us on a four-month probationary period. During this time, if you are offered a Hybrid role you will be required to attend a Central Bedfordshire Council office location more frequently to support thorough and well-supported onboarding into your role. Please keep this in mind if you anticipate extensive travel to Central Bedfordshire.
