Luma Education Recruitment is working with a leading education provider in Totnes, Devon, who are looking for an experienced and passionate SEND Functional Skills Tutor to join their team.

The Role
As a SEND Functional Skills Tutor, you'll deliver engaging and personalised Functional Skills lessons, adapting your teaching to meet the individual needs, abilities and learning styles of each learner.
You'll help young people overcome barriers to education and develop practical skills that can support their progression into further education, employment and independent life.
You'll also work alongside experienced education professionals and wider support teams to ensure each learner receives the right support to make meaningful progress.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Functional Skills lessons.
- Teach and support learners with literacy, numeracy and digital skills.
- Assess learners' starting points and develop personalised learning plans.
- Set achievable targets that support academic, personal and social development.
- Adapt teaching strategies, resources and activities to meet individual needs.
- Monitor, assess and record learner progress.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with learners and encourage their confidence and independence.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, learning support assistants, therapists and other professionals.
- Maintain accurate records relating to attendance, progress and interventions.
- Contribute to the development of the Functional Skills programme.
- Participate in relevant training and continuing professional development.
About You
We're looking for a dedicated, patient and adaptable educator who genuinely enjoys helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in Education, SEND or a related subject.
- At least two years' experience teaching or tutoring learners with SEND.
- Good understanding of additional learning needs and inclusive teaching approaches.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with young people and professionals.
- Strong organisation and time-management skills.
- Confidence using educational technology and digital learning resources.
- A genuine commitment to supporting young people with SEND.

Desirable Experience
- Postgraduate qualification in SEND or a related field.
- Experience creating and delivering personalised learning plans.
- Knowledge of Functional Skills qualifications and assessment frameworks.
- Experience using assistive technology and adaptive teaching strategies.
- Experience monitoring and recording learner progress.
