We are recruiting on behalf of a leading education provider in Leicester for an experienced and passionate SEND Functional Skills Tutor.
This is an exciting opportunity to support young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) by delivering engaging Functional Skills tuition that helps learners develop the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills they need to achieve their full potential.

Role
As a SEND Functional Skills Tutor, you will deliver high-quality, tailored lessons in Functional Skills, adapting your teaching to meet the individual needs of each learner.
You'll support students in developing essential literacy, numeracy, and digital skills, helping to build their confidence, independence, and readiness for further education, employment, and everyday life.
Working closely with colleagues and wider professionals, you'll contribute to a supportive learning environment where every student is encouraged to succeed.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Functional Skills lessons
- Assess learners' current abilities and develop personalised learning plans
- Set realistic, achievable targets that support academic and personal progress
- Adapt teaching strategies and learning resources to meet individual needs
- Monitor, assess, and record learner progress, making adjustments where appropriate
- Work collaboratively with teachers, learning support assistants, therapists, and other professionals
- Maintain accurate records relating to attendance, progress, and interventions
- Promote learner confidence, independence, and engagement throughout each session
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the Functional Skills programme
- Participate in training and continuing professional development to maintain best practice in SEND education

You
We're looking for a dedicated and adaptable educator who is passionate about helping learners overcome barriers to education.
Essential Requirements
- A relevant degree or professional qualification in Education, Special Educational Needs, or a related subject
- At least two years' experience teaching or tutoring learners with SEND
- A strong understanding of a range of additional learning needs and inclusive teaching approaches
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to build positive relationships with learners, families, and professionals
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Confidence using educational technology and digital learning resources
- A genuine commitment to inclusive education and continuous professional development

Desirable Experience
- Postgraduate qualification in Special Educational Needs or a related field
- Experience developing and delivering personalised learning plans
- Knowledge of Functional Skills qualifications and assessment frameworks
- Experience using assistive technology and adaptive teaching strategies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent record keeping and learner progress monitoring
