SEND and Inclusion Link Member
Education Governing Committee
Remote, Devon or Cornwall based
Four 2-hour committee meetings per year for a 2-year term minimum
Role Overview
The SEND and Inclusion Link Member supports the governance of ROC College by bringing specialist expertise and insight relating to special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), inclusion, accessibility, and learner participation. The role helps ensure that learners receive high-quality, person-centred education and support that enables them to achieve their goals and lead fulfilling lives. Based on the Education Governing Committee co-opted member role.
Key Responsibilities
- Fulfil the responsibilities of a member of the Education Governing Committee.
- Act as the Committee's lead member for SEND, inclusion, and accessibility.
- Provide scrutiny and assurance regarding the quality and effectiveness of SEND provision.
- Support the Committee in understanding learner needs, barriers to participation, and opportunities to improve outcomes.
- Review information relating to learner achievement, progression, wellbeing, and engagement for different learner groups.
- Promote inclusive practice and learner-centred approaches across all aspects of ROC College.
- Provide constructive challenge regarding accessibility, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Support assurance regarding preparation for adulthood, independence, and learner outcomes.
- Participate in learning walks, visits, and assurance activities focused on learner experience and inclusion.
- Champion the voice of learners and the importance of co-production in educational planning and delivery.
- Act as an ambassador for ROC College and United Response.
- Attend Committee meetings and contribute actively to governance activities.

- Knowledge or experience of SEND, disability, autism, or inclusive education.
- A passion for improving opportunities and outcomes for learners with additional needs.
- The ability to think strategically and contribute to long-term development.
- Confidence to provide constructive challenge and informed support.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Integrity, discretion, and a commitment to confidentiality.
- The ability to work collaboratively and respect differing perspectives.
- A willingness to undertake relevant governance and SEND training.

- Educational psychology, therapy, or allied professions.

- Governance, trustee, or committee experience.
- Lived experience of disability, autism, learning disabilities, or caring responsibilities.
