SEND Learning Mentor - Bolton
Sometimes the first step back into education isn't a lesson. It's a relationship.
SEND Inclusion Support is looking for a SEND Learning Mentor to support young people in Bolton who are struggling to access mainstream education.
You could be working with a young person experiencing SEND, SEMH, school-based anxiety, EBSA, low confidence or other barriers to education.
This role is about helping a young person feel safe, understood and ready to engage again.
The difference you can make
For some young people, traditional classroom expectations have become a barrier to learning.
As a SEND Learning Mentor, you'll have the time to get to know the individual - their interests, strengths, communication style and what helps them feel comfortable.
You'll work alongside them to build confidence, develop positive routines and gradually reconnect them with learning.
The aim isn't simply to get through a lesson. It's to help the young person make progress towards whatever their next appropriate pathway looks like.

What you'll do
- Provide consistent 1:1 support to a young person
- Build a positive and trusting professional relationship
- Encourage engagement with education through the pupil's interests and strengths
- Support emotional wellbeing, confidence and independence
- Help pupils develop communication, social and learning skills
- Work alongside teachers and our wider specialist team
- Communicate appropriately with families and professionals
- Maintain clear records and feedback on progress
- Adapt your approach according to the individual pupil
You won't be working alone
Although support may take place in the home or community, our practitioners are never simply sent out to work in isolation.
You'll have ongoing support from the SEND Inclusion Support team, with access to guidance, resources and specialist advice.
You'll also be part of a wider team working across SEND and alternative provision.

Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH, autism, anxiety or other barriers to education is highly valued.
Most importantly, you'll need to be patient, reliable, calm and able to build genuine professional relationships with young people.
