1:1 EOTAS/AP Science Tutor – Leominster
Location: Leominster, Herefordshire
Subject: Science
Phase: Secondary / EOTAS / Alternative Provision
Working Arrangement: In-person
Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive, and experienced 1:1 Science Tutor to provide personalised tuition to a young person accessing EOTAS or Alternative Provision in Leominster.
The successful tutor will have strong Science subject knowledge and experience supporting young people who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace, and resources to meet individual needs and creating a calm, positive learning environment.
Experience working with SEND, SEMH, EOTAS, or Alternative Provision learners would be highly desirable. The ability to build a strong, trusting relationship with the young person will be particularly important, alongside supporting their academic progress and confidence in Science.
This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.
The Role May Involve
- Providing personalised one-to-one Science tuition.
- Supporting a secondary-aged learner accessing EOTAS or Alternative Provision.
- Planning engaging, accessible, and appropriately challenging Science lessons.
- Adapting teaching methods, resources, and lesson pace to meet individual needs.
- Identifying gaps in scientific knowledge and providing targeted support.
- Supporting Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as appropriate.
- Breaking down scientific concepts into clear and manageable steps.
- Developing scientific reasoning, problem-solving, and enquiry skills.
- Supporting GCSE Science preparation and assessments where appropriate.
- Helping the learner re-engage with education and develop a positive attitude towards learning.
- Supporting confidence, resilience, and independence.
- Creating a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment.
- Adapting sessions where the learner is experiencing anxiety, disengagement, or other barriers to learning.
- Using the learner’s interests to make lessons engaging and accessible.
- Monitoring progress and adapting tuition accordingly.
- Providing appropriate feedback to parents/carers and other professionals.
- Building a positive and trusting relationship with the young person.
- Working collaboratively with the wider support team.
- Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Essential Requirements
- Strong Science subject knowledge with the ability to support secondary-aged learners.
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
- Experience working within EOTAS, Alternative Provision, or a similar setting is highly desirable.
- Experience delivering one-to-one tuition or personalised educational support is desirable.
- Understanding of the barriers that can prevent young people from accessing mainstream education.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods, resources, and pace according to the learner’s individual needs.
- A patient, calm, flexible, and empathetic approach.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
- Ability to build trust with young people who may have experienced difficulties within education.
- Confidence creating a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.
- Good organisational skills and a professional approach.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
- The right to work in the UK.
