Rising Hope Education is urgently recruiting experienced SEND Teaching Assistants for two long-term opportunities within a welcoming mainstream primary school in Barking.
These positions have become available at short notice and the school is keen to meet suitable candidates as soon as possible.
We are particularly interested in Teaching Assistants who have experience supporting children with autism and additional needs, understand that behaviour is a form of communication, and are confident adapting their approach to the individual child.
Role 1 – KS2 SEND TA | Maths Intervention & 1:1 Support
This is a varied SEND Teaching Assistant role working within Key Stage 2.
During the mornings, you will support pupils with maths and numeracy interventions, working with individuals and small groups of children who require additional support to access learning and build confidence.
In the afternoons, your focus will move towards 1:1 SEND support, working closely with an individual pupil and helping them successfully access the mainstream classroom environment.
The school is looking for somebody who can combine strong academic support with a genuine understanding of SEND.
You Should Be
- Confident supporting KS2 maths and numeracy
- Experienced in delivering small-group or individual interventions
- Comfortable providing 1:1 SEND support
- Patient, adaptable and emotionally intelligent
- Able to build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries
- Confident working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Role 2 – SEND Provision Teaching Assistant
We also potentially have an opportunity within the school's specialist SEND provision.
For this position, we are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience supporting autistic children and pupils with more complex additional needs.
We are looking for somebody who understands that effective autism support is about far more than simply managing behaviour.
You should be able to recognise communication needs, sensory differences, regulation and dysregulation, and understand how changes in environment, routine or expectations can affect an autistic child.
Experience in areas such as the following would be particularly valuable:
- Autism / ASC
- Communication and interaction needs
- Emotional and sensory regulation
- Non-verbal or minimally verbal pupils
- Visual supports and structured routines
- Attention Autism
- PECS, Makaton or alternative communication approaches
- Supporting children with EHCPs
- Personalised learning and engagement
- Positive behaviour support
You do not necessarily need experience in every area above. More importantly, we are looking for somebody with genuine SEND experience, patience, empathy and the ability to understand the individual child behind the behaviour.
