Location: Yeovil, Somerset

Phase: Primary / Secondary / SEND / SEMH

Working Arrangement: In-person

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced SEND/SEMH Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one support to a young person in Yeovil. This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The successful tutor will have experience supporting children and young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs and will be confident adapting their approach to meet individual learning, emotional and behavioural needs.

The role will focus on creating a calm, positive and supportive learning environment where the student feels comfortable and confident to engage. The tutor will build a strong professional relationship with the young person while supporting their academic progress, confidence, independence and re-engagement with education.

The Role May Involve

  • Providing one-to-one educational support tailored to the student’s individual needs and abilities.
  • Supporting the student with core subjects, depending on experience and the student’s requirements.
  • Planning and delivering engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging learning activities.
  • Adapting teaching methods, resources, pace and expectations to suit individual needs.
  • Supporting students with a range of SEND and SEMH needs.
  • Identifying barriers to learning and developing strategies to help the student overcome them.
  • Encouraging confidence, resilience, independence and a positive attitude towards learning.
  • Supporting students who may experience anxiety, low confidence, emotional regulation difficulties or disengagement from education.
  • Helping the student re-engage with learning and develop positive routines.
  • Using the student’s interests and strengths to make learning meaningful and engaging.
  • Supporting organisation, communication and independent learning skills.
  • Monitoring progress and providing regular, constructive feedback.
  • Building a positive, consistent and trusting relationship with the student.
  • Working collaboratively with parents/carers, schools and other professionals involved in the student’s education.
  • Maintaining appropriate safeguarding and professional boundaries at all times.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
  • Experience providing one-to-one or highly personalised educational support is desirable.
  • Experience working in a school, tutoring, alternative provision, mentoring or similar educational setting.
  • Ability to adapt your approach to meet individual learning and emotional needs.
  • A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence supporting students who may have experienced barriers or difficulties within a traditional classroom environment.
  • Ability to build trust and engage young people who may be reluctant or anxious about education.
  • A genuine commitment to supporting the academic, social and emotional development of young people.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
  • The right to work in the UK.
