Senior 3rd Line IT Engineer – Infrastructure / Networks – Contract – Hybrid (Bedford)
We're looking for a Senior 3rd Line IT Engineer to support a complex engineering organisation as it continues to modernise and mature its IT infrastructure.
This is a broad technical role combining third-line support, infrastructure project delivery, and technical leadership. You'll work across Windows and Linux environments, networks, servers, virtualisation, and cyber-focused initiatives, while acting as the senior escalation point for a small IT team. Alongside hands-on technical work, you'll help mentor junior engineers, review technical documentation, and contribute to the delivery of wider IT improvement projects.

Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Strong 3rd Line IT Infrastructure support experience
- Administration of Windows and Linux server environments
- Networking knowledge including firewalls, switches, VPNs, routers, and proxies
- Experience with VMware or other virtualisation platforms
- Infrastructure project delivery and systems implementation experience
- Understanding of Secure by Design, Zero Trust, and Cyber Essentials principles
- Experience with ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow, ManageEngine, or similar
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills

Desirable:
- Experience within defence, engineering, manufacturing, or other OT environments
- Technical leadership or mentoring experience
- Cisco, VMware, Microsoft, or similar infrastructure certifications
- Jira and Confluence experience
- Existing SC Clearance or eligibility to obtain clearance
Additional Information
- Initial 6-month contract
- Competitive daily rate
- Hybrid working (2–3 days onsite in Bedford)
