Senior Account Manager: Healthcare Communications
Public Affairs Agency | Central London | Permanent or Freelance (day rate) | Immediate start
Few subjects matter more to the public than their health. Few are harder to explain well.
If you can take a clinical study and turn it into a story that a national health editor wants to run, this role is for you.
Your New Employer
My client is a highly regarded public relations and public affairs agency with more than two decades of results behind it. Its consultants come from across the political spectrum. It advises ambitious start-ups, leading charities and multinational companies, at Westminster and beyond.
It is known for being straight-talking, quick and precise. Clients stay for years.
Your New Challenge
You will lead health media relations for a portfolio of healthcare and pharmaceutical clients. You will turn medical data and drug information into engaging, timely stories that editors want to run. Every story will be truthful, accurate and meet the regulatory expectations that govern health communications.
Your work will include:
- Planning and delivering media campaigns for healthcare and pharmaceutical clients
- Pitching stories and finding fresh angles for national and trade health media
- Translating clinical data and drug information into clear, credible news
- Advising clients on how media coverage can support their public affairs goals
- Leading day-to-day client relationships and managing junior team members
- Spotting opportunities in the policy and news agenda before others do

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You
You are a seasoned agency professional and a gifted storyteller. You can create a story from dense data and scientific literature, and make it relevant and accessible to any audience. You have a proven track record with the health media, both trade and national. You know what a health editor needs, when they need it and how to give it to them.
You will bring:
- Agency experience. You know how to pitch a story, sell an angle and find a second one when the first falls flat. You handle several clients and deadlines at once with ease.
- Pharmaceutical and medical data experience. You have worked with clinical trial results, drug information or medical data. You can read a study, find the story within it and present it accurately and responsibly.
- Strong health media relationships. You have contacts across national newsrooms and specialist titles, and journalists take your calls.
- Knowledge of the health landscape. You understand how the NHS, regulators, government and Parliament shape health policy, and how media coverage can influence each of them.
- Sound judgement on compliance. You know the rules that govern communications about medicines and you work within them without losing the story.
- Excellent writing. Your press releases, briefings and pitches are clear, accurate and quick to read.
- Client leadership. You advise senior clients with confidence, manage their expectations and help their accounts grow.
- Team management. You enjoy developing junior colleagues and sharpening their media skills.
- Commercial awareness. You see where a client's needs are heading and suggest new work that serves them.
