What New Season is

New Season is a creative PR and communications studio working at the intersection of sport, climate and culture.

Sport is one of the last great stages a shared culture has left. It gathers the attention of millions, and rarer still, attention that comes with trust. Our clients are professional athletes, sports organisations, foundations and agencies, already doing real work on climate action, ocean health, gender-based violence and mental health.

We exist to help that work cut through and deliver change, and to demonstrate the commercial value of doing good.

Today the studio is me, a small group of freelancers I trust, a growing number of retained clients, and an operating system that takes care of a lot of the research, monitoring and reporting. The role I'm hiring is a senior one, and you'd be the first.

I'm looking for someone special. Someone who can take hold of the client side and shape what New Season becomes, while I focus on growing the business. The accounts would be yours to run rather than yours to service, and when we hire again those people will sit under you.

This is a hybrid role and we're London-based. Ideally we'd have a couple of days a week together in London, though I'm open to fully remote for someone exceptional.

What you'll own

  • Client delivery. Day-to-day lead on a portfolio of retained clients. Weekly rhythm, actions, deadlines, and the client always knowing where everything stands.
  • Counsel. Helping clients decide what to say, when to say it, and how to deliver it. Trust and credibility get built here more than anywhere else.
  • Earned media. Media lists, pitches, follow-ups and coverage reports.
  • Stages and awards. Getting client spokespeople onto the stages their sector watches, and shaping winning award entries.
  • Reporting. Monthly client reports built on real coverage and outcome numbers.
  • Visibility in AI search. A lot of people now meet a client's work through an AI model, so we build for that alongside press.
  • Briefing our freelancers. Scoping work, writing the brief, checking what comes back. It's where you'd start building the management side of the Account Director role.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What I'm looking for

  • You care about sport, and about using it for good. Everything here rests on the power of sport, and on how well that gets communicated. I want someone who finds that exciting.
  • Established relationships with journalists who cover this area. Sport, sustainability and the sport business trades. Strong UK contacts are the priority, and US reach would be a bonus. Either way, you know how to work a network to find the right person, including the freelancers who cover ground where we need specialist support.
  • You love landing a story. The right story, in the right title, with a journalist you've built something with.
  • You know where stories live now. The independent magazine, the Substack that owns a subculture, the TikTok creator a fanbase trusts.
  • Excellent writing, and taste. You can write a pitch that lands, a media release that gets picked up, and an op-ed a client would put their name to.
  • Comfortable going further with AI than most. We're building an AI-native studio, which is how a small team delivers at the standard of a much bigger agency. You don't need to be an expert but you do need to be willing to get into the infrastructure underneath, rather than asking a model to proofread an email or draft a release.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit. There's no big agency machine behind you and some of this will be messy. That suits someone who wants a say in how the business gets built.

How I work, and how I'd want us to work

  • Be yourself. There are two of us, so your voice shapes this place as much as mine. Bring your curiosity and your opinions, and I'll back you to grow into whatever the role becomes.
  • Nothing beats human connection. It's the reason we're progressive about AI, which takes the routine work so we can spend the time in rooms with journalists and clients.
  • Make history. It's our tagline, and we mean it. I want to work with ambitious people who want to build something meaningful.

Package

  • £45,000 to £52,000 base, reviewed at 12 months.
  • Commission on any new business you bring in.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, and your birthday off.
  • Extra days for slow travel. Take the train instead of the plane and the extra journey time counts as work, not annual leave.
  • Pension, with a 5% employer contribution
  • A day a year for volunteering with a cause you care about
  • A training budget
  • Hybrid working

Process

Send a CV, a short note about a piece of earned coverage you made happen and how you made it happen, and one thing you've written that you're proud of. A pitch, a release, an op-ed, anything with your fingerprints on it. Two conversations and one small paid task. I'm not putting a strict deadline on the decision, it's the first senior hire in a two-person studio and I'd rather take the time to get it right.

Three-month probation with monthly check-ins, then quarterly reviews.

And if you're reading this thinking you're 80% of it, please apply anyway. The last 20% is what the first year is for.
