Senior Accountant
£40,000-£46,000
Are you an experienced accountant looking for a role where you can combine technical delivery with genuine client contact, advisory work, and progression? This is an opportunity to join a well-established professional services firm where you'll work closely with business owners, managers, and directors while continuing to develop your career.
Based in Chester, this Senior Accountant position offers flexible hybrid working, a supportive team environment, and the opportunity to take ownership of a varied portfolio within a growing accountancy business.
The Role
You'll play an important role within the accounts team, working across year-end accounts, taxation, and client advisory services. The position would suit someone who enjoys understanding how businesses operate rather than simply producing the numbers, and who wants to build strong, long-term client relationships.
As a Senior Accountant, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing year-end accounts and financial statements for a varied portfolio of clients
- Managing relationships with owner-managed businesses and providing practical financial guidance
- Preparing corporation tax and personal tax computations
- Identifying opportunities for tax planning and wider business advice
- Working alongside managers and directors on more complex client requirements
- Supporting clients with improving their accounting processes and systems
- Coordinating work across different areas of the practice to ensure deadlines are met
- Coaching and supporting junior members of the accounts team
- Developing a strong understanding of your clients and becoming a trusted point of contact

What We're Looking For
You'll ideally be ACA or ACCA qualified and have previous experience within an accountancy practice.
You'll also bring:
- Experience managing or working across a portfolio of varied clients
- A strong understanding of accounts preparation and taxation
- Experience working with owner-managed businesses
- Good communication skills and confidence dealing directly with clients
- A commercial and solutions-focused approach
- Strong organisation and the ability to manage competing deadlines
- An interest in technology and modern accounting systems
- Experience with CCH would be advantageous, although not essential
- A willingness to support and develop more junior colleagues
