Job Description
Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in Hampshire for a Senior Accountant to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will support the Children, Families and Education Finance Team, and Adult Social Care and Public Health Finance Team, shaping financial strategy, driving improvement, and ensuring the best possible outcomes for residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on the preparation, monitoring, and reporting of revenue and capital budgets, including forecasting and year-end processes.
- Provide insightful financial analysis and advice, identifying risks, opportunities, efficiencies, and potential savings.
- Develop financial models, business cases, and costings to support strategic decisions, transformation, and investment proposals.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, schools, and external partners, providing clear financial guidance and challenge.

Candidate Criteria
- Fully qualified accountant, with strong technical accountancy experience within local government, with experience of the Dedicated School’s Grant, Children’s, or Adults Social Care being beneficial.
- Proven experience across budgeting, forecasting, financial monitoring, financial modelling, and the preparation of accounts.
- Strong analytical and IT skills, including advanced Excel and experience working with complex financial data and systems.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to senior and non-financial stakeholders.
