Senior Accountant

Location: London

Salary: £50,000-£60,000

Working Pattern: Full-time, permanent

We're working with a forward-thinking accountancy practice that is actively investing in technology, automation and AI. They're looking for a Senior Accountant who wants more than simply managing a portfolio - someone who is curious, commercially minded and keen to influence how work is delivered.

The role

As a Senior Accountant, you'll take ownership of a varied client portfolio while acting as a key point of contact. Alongside delivering high-quality accounts and tax work, you'll have the freedom to question existing processes and identify smarter ways of working.

  • Managing a portfolio of clients and acting as their trusted day-to-day contact
  • Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts and tax returns
  • Reviewing work completed by junior team members and supporting their development
  • Handling technical queries and using professional judgement to reach appropriate solutions
  • Working confidently across cloud accounting platforms, data tools and Excel
  • Identifying opportunities to automate repetitive processes and improve efficiency
  • Exploring and using AI tools responsibly within accounting workflows
  • Reviewing both human and technology-generated outputs with appropriate professional scepticism
  • Contributing ideas that improve processes, client service and overall efficiency

What we're looking for

You'll need to be ACA, ACCA or CTA qualified with several years' experience in a UK practice environment.

More importantly, you'll be someone who:

  • Is comfortable managing a varied portfolio independently
  • Has strong statutory accounts and tax experience
  • Possesses excellent Excel and data skills
  • Has experience with cloud accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks
  • Takes an active interest in automation, AI and emerging technology
  • Can demonstrate practical use of AI beyond basic research or generic prompts
  • Naturally questions inefficient processes and looks for better solutions
  • Communicates clearly and confidently with both clients and colleagues
  • Enjoys taking ownership and has the confidence to suggest change
