TBCC Ltd is a UK-based business consulting and services company supporting entrepreneurs, start-ups and growing organisations with practical business and operational solutions. We work alongside a growing group of businesses across different sectors and are strengthening our internal finance and compliance function.

Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant / HMRC Compliance Manager to join us on an initial 6-month fixed-term contract, with the opportunity to extend to 12 months or potentially become permanent.

This is a hands-on role for someone with strong practical knowledge of UK accounting and HMRC processes who is confident reviewing existing records, identifying historic issues and bringing company accounts and tax affairs fully up to date.

The successful candidate will work across a group of businesses and will be responsible for reviewing and regularising accounting and HMRC records, correcting company and tax registration information where necessary, managing HMRC correspondence and ensuring ongoing compliance.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing existing accounting, tax and HMRC records across the group
  • Resolving historic accounting and compliance issues
  • Managing VAT registrations, returns and related HMRC matters
  • Managing PAYE, payroll compliance and employer obligations
  • Supporting Corporation Tax calculations, returns and payments
  • Preparing and reviewing statutory and management accounts
  • Reconciling bank accounts, ledgers, payroll and tax records
  • Liaising directly with HMRC and responding to queries and correspondence
  • Reviewing Government Gateway and HMRC account access and registrations
  • Establishing effective accounting procedures, controls and compliance calendars
  • Improving bookkeeping and financial reporting systems
  • Supporting year-end accounting and audit preparation where applicable
  • Training and mentoring existing members of the finance team
  • Documenting processes and creating a structured handover for long-term internal management

This is a hybrid position based in Manchester/Greater Manchester, combining office-based working with work-from-home flexibility.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong UK accounting and financial reporting experience
  • Significant practical experience dealing directly with HMRC
  • Strong knowledge of VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax and UK tax compliance
  • Experience identifying and resolving historic accounting or HMRC issues
  • Strong bookkeeping, reconciliation and financial control skills
  • Experience preparing statutory and management accounts
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to review and improve financial processes and internal controls
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Ability to explain technical accounting and tax matters clearly
  • Experience working with SMEs or groups of companies is highly desirable
  • ACCA, ACA, CIMA, AAT or equivalent professional qualification is desirable; substantial relevant UK experience will also be considered
