Senior Accountant

Location: Leeds
Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 per annum (DOE)
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00
Working Arrangement: Fully Office-Based
Benefits: On-site Parking

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Accountant to join a well-established and growing accountancy practice based in Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for a practice-trained accountant looking to take ownership of a varied client portfolio while working closely with directors and supporting junior team members.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a diverse range of clients, preparing statutory accounts, providing tax and business advice, and building strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of SME, limited company, sole trader and partnership clients
  • Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts in accordance with relevant accounting standards
  • Preparing corporation tax computations and returns
  • Preparing and reviewing personal tax returns
  • Reviewing bookkeeping and VAT returns
  • Liaising directly with clients on accounting, taxation and business matters
  • Assisting clients with cloud accounting software and process improvements
  • Providing management accounts and financial reporting where required
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards
  • Building and maintaining strong long-term client relationships

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience working within an accountancy practice environment
  • Practice-trained accountant with a solid understanding of UK accounting and taxation requirements
  • ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualified, part-qualified
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts for a varied client portfolio
  • Strong knowledge of corporation tax, VAT and personal tax
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities effectively
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

Software Experience

Candidates should have experience using a variety of accounting systems, including:

  • Xero
  • Sage
  • QuickBooks
  • SAP
  • Microsoft Dynamics

Experience with cloud-based accounting platforms and digital bookkeeping solutions would be highly advantageous.
