Accounts Senior

Are you an experienced practice accountant looking for a role where you can take real ownership of your work, build strong client relationships and continue progressing professionally? The Opportunity

As an Accounts Senior, you'll work closely with a diverse range of clients, taking responsibility for accounts, tax, bookkeeping and management reporting while acting as a trusted point of contact. You'll have the opportunity to broaden your technical experience, support junior colleagues and work alongside experienced managers on a variety of assignments. Based in Hertfordshire, this role offers a strong balance of autonomy and collaboration, with hybrid working, flexible hours and a clear commitment to professional development.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Preparing year-end statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
  • Producing corporation tax computations and returns
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts
  • Managing bookkeeping requirements and preparing VAT returns across different schemes
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with clients
  • Responding to accounting and tax queries and ensuring assignments are completed accurately and on time
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team
  • Assisting managers with ad-hoc client work and wider assignments
  • Maintaining consistently high standards of client service
  • Managing multiple deadlines while working with a high degree of independence

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally be AAT qualified and part-qualified ACA or ACCA, with at least two years' experience within an accountancy practice. The successful candidate is likely to have:

  • Good knowledge of UK GAAP and FRS 102
  • Strong statutory accounts and corporation tax experience
  • Practical bookkeeping and VAT experience
  • Confidence dealing directly with clients and developing long-term relationships
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Strong Excel, Word and Outlook skills
  • Experience using accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, CCH or Alphatax would be advantageous
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work effectively under pressure
  • A strong team ethic with the confidence to take ownership of your workload
  • An interest in supporting and developing more junior colleagues
