Our client, an established company specialising in the import and export of industrial machinery, is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its finance team in Bryanston. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing key accounting functions, preparing accurate financial reports and supporting the effective financial management of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full accounting function up to trial balance and financial statement level.
  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and financial reports.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end financial closing processes.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger activities.
  • Manage foreign currency transactions, exchange rate adjustments and foreign creditor accounts.
  • Monitor import and export transactions, including landed costs, customs duties and related charges.
  • Ensure the accurate accounting and valuation of inventory and industrial machinery.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts, budgets and financial projections.
  • Monitor actual financial performance against budgets and report on significant variances.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns and assist with other statutory and tax-related requirements.
  • Ensure that financial records and transactions are accurately processed and maintained on SAP.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules and providing the required documentation.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls, accounting procedures and reporting processes.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to management and other departments when required.

Requirements

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • A completed professional accounting qualification or registration would be advantageous.
  • At least five years of relevant accounting experience, including experience in a senior accounting position.
  • Strong working experience with SAP is essential.
  • Sound knowledge of financial reporting, management accounts, reconciliations and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience within an importing, exporting, manufacturing, engineering or industrial machinery environment would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of foreign currency transactions, inventory accounting and landed-cost calculations.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to work with complex financial information.
  • High levels of accuracy, attention to detail and financial integrity.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and organisational skills.

Benefits

Our client offers a basic salary of R55 000 to R65 000 per month, depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications, experience and suitability for the position. The package also includes medical aid and provident fund benefits.
