Senior Accountant – Morley, Leeds (Hybrid)

About us

Kodiak Financial is an accountancy practice based in Morley, Leeds. We look after around 600 sole traders and limited companies across the UK. The practice has doubled in size over the last year, and we plan to keep growing at that pace, both organically and by taking on client books from other firms. Most of the accounts and returns are already prepared by the team before they reach review. A full-time client co-ordinator handles onboarding & administration and payroll runs separately.

The role

At the moment every file comes to the owner for review and sign-off. At our current size that has become the bottleneck, and it's the main reason we're hiring. You'll take over the review of year-end accounts, tax returns and VAT returns. The preparation is largely done by the time a file reaches you, so you won't spend your days on bank recs and data entry. Your time will go on checking the work, dealing with the technical points that come up and getting jobs out on time.

What you'll take on in the first year

A lot of how we work needs to be formalised to support the growth, and you'll have a big say in how that's done.

  • Implementing a formal review standard, including sign-off rules and clear guidance on what needs to go to the owner and what doesn't
  • Keeping the job pipeline in Bright up to date, so we can see at a glance what's in progress, what's waiting on clients and what's overdue
  • Improving how we request information from clients, so information is received quicker and fewer queries come back to us mid-job
  • Helping new batches of clients come on board smoothly as the practice grows organically and by further acquisition
  • Making quarterly MTD for Income Tax submissions part of the normal routine

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Day to day

  • Reviewing year-end accounts, CT600s, self assessment returns and VAT returns in Xero and Xero Tax
  • Signing off work, or sending it back to the preparer with clear notes
  • Giving feedback to the preparers so the same issues don't keep coming back
  • Handling technical queries on the files you review, including emailing clients where needed
  • Keeping on top of VAT and MTD deadlines
  • Passing tax planning points and anything unusual to the owner

Who we're looking for

Essential:

  • ACCA, ACA, CTA, AAT or ATT qualified, or qualified by experience
  • At least 3 years in UK practice, working with sole traders and small limited companies
  • Experience reviewing other people's work, not just preparing your own
  • A solid working knowledge of corporation tax, self assessment and VAT
  • Confident using Xero

Useful but not essential:

  • Xero Tax and Bright Manager
  • Hands-on experience of MTD for Income Tax

You'll get on well here if you like improving the way things are done and want a real say in how a growing business is run. If you'd prefer a large firm where every procedure is already set in stone, this probably isn't the right fit.

Package and progression

  • Salary of £42,000 to £50,000, depending on experience
  • Hybrid working at our office in Morley, Leeds
  • 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday
  • 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays
  • CPD and professional subscriptions paid

We're growing quickly and the ideal candidate would transition into a Client Manager role. As Client Manager you'd look after client relationships, report directly to the owner and have real input into how the practice is run and where it goes next.

Interview process and how to apply

  • An initial interview on Google Meets
  • An in-person interview at our Morley office, including a short practical exercise
  • A decision shortly afterwards

To apply, send us your CV with a few lines about a process you've improved at a previous practice.

This role is open to UK-based candidates only.
