SD Accountancy is a growing independent accountancy practice working predominantly with owner-managed businesses and SMEs.
We're looking for an experienced, qualified accountant to join the business in a senior role, working directly alongside the owner.
This isn't intended to be a conventional Senior Accountant position. We're looking for someone who wants to become an important part of a growing practice — taking ownership of client relationships, supporting the wider team and getting involved in the commercial growth of the business.
The role
- Manage a portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients
- Review and prepare year-end accounts and tax returns
- Provide practical tax and commercial advice
- Act as a senior point of contact for clients
- Review and support the work of other team members
- Help improve internal processes and systems
- Meet prospective clients and support new client onboarding
- Attend local networking and business events
- Help develop relationships and grow the firm's presence across Oxfordshire
- Work closely with the owner on the continued development of the practice

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
